I’m based in Cornwall, and like many people down here I freelance in different sectors to stay adaptable – for me, this is filmmaking and fundraising. I fell into fundraising through project management roles, and quickly wanted to know more. I knew there was lots I needed to learn, and could see the potential for better supporting local organisations, so signed up to NAFS.

As a freelancer, NAFS has given me a lot more confidence. I don’t work within one organisation, so I needed to build my skills to enable me to work with a really broad range of people, while at the same time leading on a major project. Being able to attend NAFS online was also really helpful – while I know the in-person interaction would have been brilliant, it enabled me to continue to work around the course, and absorb the information at my own pace. I was impressed with how dynamic and committed the NAFS team have been, which made the process fun too, and the ongoing mentoring has just been invaluable to putting everything into practice.
